All of them. When the *******s bleed us dry with road/fuel tax then claim to be bastions of safety, they could at least keep the roads in order.

Inside lane where trucks wear grooves in the tarmac?
Feels like you've got a flat tyre!

If roads were supplied by private companies and there was a choice you'd want to go else where for them!

Same over our way (Gloucestershire). I live in a village which is covered by the Gloucestershire Highways, Southern Division. Our roads are in a terrible condition. They do repair them when you report it, even though they really need resurfacing. I work in Cheltenham, the approaches to which are covered by another division, and in town, by the Cheltenham Borough Council. They haven't responded in 13 months, nor repaired the potholes. I've now emailed photos to MCN and the local paper.

See the picture on that MCN link where you can see the cobble stone underneath.......

How crap is that, they havent even made the roads with deep enough foundation to start with.
They'll patch that up and there will be more holes before they finish.

Road maintenance is local not national... So they're bleeding us dry with council tax not road tax

Does confuse me a little with the one with the potholes. Shouldn't be there, but if you hit it whose fault is that?

if thats got cobbles showing, its highly unlikely that thats anything other than a local road in an old town centre between old terrace houses or the like, i note from the MCN's photos that very few of the "faults" actually show them in context as to where they are.

the MCN have a habit of initiating debate, by mixing an element of truth with a lot of hot air,

however thats not to say that some of the uk's roads are not in a really poor condition, as a highways engineer for the last 19 years, ive spent my career trying to patch failing pavements that ideally need renewal,

but we dont want to pay tax, we want good schools, we want good hospitals, we want good roads, unfortunately road maintenance is low down on a long list of the governments spending prioity, and until that changes our roads are not going to drastically improve.

the majority of highways authorities are extremely good at prioritising where to spend there ever reducing budgets............

oh and theres nothing inherently wrong with overlaying cobbles with a wearing course, the cobbles are a good roadbase , theyre going nowhere, all thats happened there is that the wearing course hasnt been patched in time to save a failure, thats why i say it looks like a very minor road, only town/city streets were cobbled, it was very expensive and they generally get ripped out with major development works, so that looks like an old unadopted street to me.........could be wrong though.

With possible exception of the potholes, the main drag through my town shames all of those. Yes, there are "road works" going on, but the same road works have been going on for literally years with no actual improvement in the surface.

Even when you make complaints, nothing is done. Yes very polite on the phone, yes will pas it on .... then wot ..... nowt!

I complain about road quality locally and nothing has changed, as yet. They dig up holes, leave leaks, and then wonder why we have some of the most dangerous roads in the country. Yes they are twisties, but that is not the only issue ....... bad road conditions do not slow people down, they just cause accidents, and catch people out.

rant over
