Unhappy So much for fitting my hyperpros this weekend.

I ordered my Hyperpros in the week from Calsport and as promised they arrived the next day. I've been looking forward to fitting them all week. So I was just about to start the job when it dawned on me that I hadn't got round to ordering up the new fork seals!

I don't know weather to fit the spings anyway, but it seems a shame to strip the forks down and then not replace the seals whilst i'm in there. I guess I can suffer another week of pogo sticking around on the bike whilst I wait for the new seals to arrive....or can I?

Personally, I'll only change fork seals if they are leaking. If they are still sealing ..duh! they stay put.

I try not to fix a problem that isn't present .

What's the price of fork seals anyway?. Probably a good ploy to renew the seals after a certain mileage anyway?

John, who says the new seals won't leak the next day? It does happens. Nothing to do with price.
Unless the bushes are worn and need changing, meaning new seals as well then IMO no real need to change them if not leaking IMO

On the other hand if changing them gives someone that warm feeling then that's not necessarily a bad thing

Never really had a bike get up to 36k but still that's good. I'm sure some have been ok at higher milage than that.

To be honest is just one of those things where for me, "if it aint broke...."
When it's time to change, it'll be sure to let you know . Regular inspection of stanchions and keeping them/dust seal area clean togeher regular oil change keep the seals sealing.

Doesn't the material perish like hoses? That stuff usually hardens up over time so if you move it while changing the oil it could split. Nothing to do with giving a warm feeling. If it remains as flexible as it started out then fair enough, it wont need changing.

the SV never had the fork seals changed and that done 154,000 miles and that bike didn't have an easy life either.

Just do the springs and oil, I'd leave the seals unless they are already a problem.

Cheers Mark.

Id leave the seals alone, there's just as much chance of the new ones leaking.
The old ones are fitted and oil tight, at the end of the day a fork seal is only really a normal shaft seal designed to have a shaft spinning inside it and not sliding in and out.......no wonder they leak after a while!!

You wouldn't move it changing the oil though, not unless you decide to break the forks down...
