Shortly i will be purchasing my first motorbike, sv650. Top of my price range is £2000. I have been looking at the earlier curvy models on autotrader and mcn mainly, and on there providing it hasn't been crashed they start generally half-faired at about £1700, and if i were to go after a pointy i would be paying atleast 2500-3000.
But after looking around this site there is a general consensus that you can get a curvy for around £1200 or a pointy for under £2000, am i missing something or have i just managed not to spot them? I do want a fully faired model but as these appear to be much rarer, presumably the lower fairings could be purchased later from suzuki and sprayed at a standard bodyshop, is it easy to buy and fit the lower fairing yourself for a curvy, or pointy? How much are they? SV's are labelled K2, K3 etc. all over the site, does K2 represent 2002 model or is it a new development of the bike ie, mark 2. In this case is there a particular one to avoid, i.e, early models with teething problems? As this is my first bike i have been advised to go for a dealership model as many give a three month warranty? I don't hide the fact that having never owned a bike i don't yet know anything about them, so is it worth it? In my experience with cars warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on anyway, so should i just save and go private? Sorry for the essay ![]() ![]() |

Have a read of this thread
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=87787 Also do a search as this question has come up loads in the last few weeks. K1, K2 etc just represents the model year of the bike. I think you'll struggle to get anything decent on those prices you have mentioned above. Have a look on bike trader that'll give you a good idea of realistic prices. Dont rule out private sale as opposed to a dealer, but yes you do get 3 months warranty backup ( remember to ask about this when purchasing ) but TBH theres not much to worry about when buying an SV. But sometimes dealer warranty isnt all its cracked up to be. Depends if you trust the dealer or not. Lastly, have you considered a brand new bike. Suzuki are doing 0% interest free finance on SV's at the mo its a very good deal. HTH

Personally, buying a used SV from someone on this site would be first choice - especially one who's a well established member. At the end of the day the people on the site will not be looking to rip each other off (I'm not saying that's true 100% of the time though).
