Default Best Route for Bike Test

Hello

Had my SV about a year now, been making it pretty.

Usual story, grew up on bikes, but then turned to cars, and HGV's.
Now want to get back to the bikes, problem being,is i never took my test.
The SV's now finished and ready to go,and i've taken the theory part of the test.
I am confident in my bike control,so iam hoping to get away with minium lessons, but not sure about whats required for a test.
Had very cheap insurance quotes, despite no full liecence, and a few points,so hoping to use the SV for any lessons and test.
Moneys a bit tight, but i know you usally get what you pay for.
Any advice on what type of package to go for?
Also any recomendations of schools in the Salisbury/Ringwood area?

Thanks
Mike

How did you manage to insure it without a licence? I had to wait until I had passed.. I'd say try and get a couple of 2 - 3 hour lessons and then do the test, if you can already ride then all you need is a brush up on road sense, lifesavers etc

I did a three day course (test on third day) it was great, everyday i improved and it was easy to remember lifesavers, position ect as for the three days thats all i was thinking about.. Perhaps think of that route do a day or two brushing up your skills then go for your test

Yeah thats what i was thinking,i will do some time today getting some prices.

When I did my DAS I had a GPZ500S of my own. When I rang around I found the training schools would reduce their prices for me using my own bike but not by much (I think it was only £20 a day saving!). It was also a problem that I would have to get the bike to the training centre for the start of the course. Add to that the risk of dropping it and it wasn't worth it for me. So I used their bike (and dropped it on the first day!).

I didn't pass first time though so I did my final test on my own bike without the training school. By then my riding was ok so it was less risky! My husband rode it to the test centre for me. It was a much cheaper option as I only had to pay the DVLA test fee.

I did CBT with a riding school near me. £60 added extra to get their fully comp version of insurance. At first my reaction was "What? You're having a laugh, aint going to be needing that, it's only a 125!"

Then they said that the insurance, if taken out for my CBT, lasts 2 years. If I want to continue riding I'd have to either take CBT again at the end of 2 years, or pass the full test. With this in mind, I paid out for the insurance.

About a month later, I was back there doing DAS. As mentionned by others, 2 & 1/2 day tuition, then test at the end of the 3rd day (because my test was in the afternoon). Total cost for DAS? £450. Ouch, but cheapest place around! Top quality instruction too!

Never did need the insurance, but it was peace of mind. In fact, it's still valid, so if I wanted to I could hire a bike from them & be covered fully comp (instructor told me this after passing my test).

I was lucky - my brother-in-laws brother runs a bike training school so I did my DAS at a reduced rate over a few weeks.

Right had a phone around, and they all seem to be much the same price.
The problem is going to be fitting it in with my shift pattern, riding school and a test availability.
What I am now thinking, is have a days lesson, to try to get what the examiners are looking for, than book a test date, and use that as a pointer, if I fail, on what to brush up on. Gotta be cheaper than the £500 easier route.
