The cap seems to have a leak, when the tank is full-ish and on the sidestand.
Is that repairable or am I gonna have to lay out the £40 for a new cap? Thanks |

The cap will leak as it is not water/air tight, there would be no suck from the engine otherwise, your prolly filling it too full, in the manual it recomends not to fill it right to the top, you can get the problem of rain water in your tank causing miss fires as well, ive never known a cap to be water/air tight,
or your side stand takes the bike over too much. hope it helps |

Speaking about my bike:
I personally fill right up to the lip, with the bike upright. I've never seen it leak when it's on the side stand, so depending on age, perhaps the seal around the edge has perished? My bike hasn't even leaked fuel when it's been laid on its side in the middle of the road. Personally, I'd look for someone breaking the same bike as yours, and try tempt them to part with the filler cap as a complete unit. Then strip it down & replace your lock with the "newer" seals from the replacement. That way, you still only have one key to worry about. Otherwise you'll be buying a new lock, which will also come with a new key. To my thinking, there's an over-spill pipe from under the cap, so the caps should be air/water tight, allowing air in from the breather tube. |

Just to check is it leaking from around the edge of the cap, or out of the breather pipe down by your bike's exhaust?

Before going much further I'd get a quote for new seals for the petrol cap, and check that the overflow hole which you can see when the filler cap is open is not blocked.

According to the Ron Ayers website it's all one piece but may be worth talking to a local dealer in case I'm wrong
