Default lost neutral & dragging clutch

since my crash at the weekend my bike's been behaving rather oddly

I got it off the trailer tonight & put it on stands to assess the damage. I hadn't been able to get it to fire up since, but after some wiggling of the sidestand it came back to life. also, I can't get it to register neutral on the dash

anyway, it fired up okay, but even with the clutch held in, the rear wheel was rotating strongly - stopping the wheel with a booted foot stalled the engine

any ideas? bearing in mind that the bike went down pretty hard on its left side & ripped off the lhs rearset & gearshift linkage, is there anything that might be bent causing this?

Neutral, can you get the gear (or rather, lack thereof) & don't get a light to tell you? I'd suspect an electrical fault, similar to the electrical issue you have on the sidestand switch.

The rotating wheel issue, is your clutch properly adjusted? Any damage to the engine housing on that side?

I assume your bike went down on the left.

yup, bike went down on the left, no obvious damage

the clutch lever has a little inital movement - 5-10mm - before taking up the tension in the cable

Take off the sprocket cover (8mm socket with 3" extension IIRC) & squeeze the clutch lever.

Does it come all the way out? Try disconnecting the cable so that the springs will pull the clutch out all the way.

I might be barking in the wrong forest, but it's better than wanting to fit a new gearbox.

While you are in there under the sprocket cover check the clutch adjustment is correct.A quick search here for the Sid Squid clutch adjustment guide will see you right on that.

I reckon what's after happening is the clutch release assembly behind the sprocket cover is after getting slightly bent...throwing your clutch adjustment out.

Or..as mine was doing recently...my adjustment was out and I ever noticed when stopped as I put it in neutral fairly quickly before I put my foot down usually. Either way a little play with the adjusters should see you right

Hey there,
I've decided to join the forum finally after owning an SV for 6 years. I've enjoyed it so much I decided to get another purely for track days etc. This bike has something very similar to your bike (no neutral light). On closer inspection with the bike on a stand I can hear clicking coming from the gearbox whilst in neutral. If I rotate the gear selector towards engaging 2nd gear the clicking stops. Does anybody know what the problem could be?
