Default European Insurance

I will hopefully pass my test on the 19th of June. On the 23rd i have been invited to go to south of France with my mates on a bike trip.

The question i have will it be likely i will get insurance to go France having only just past my test?

I will hopefully pass but on a 33BHP restriction, and i am 18, if aloud insurance will this be very expensive?

Cheers Eddy

Every qoute i ever went for included 60days Euro insurance.

But that was with a full licence and 23.

I'm sure most cover it anyway?

22, full license, just got the quote yesterday via express insurance and the suzuki £99 deal and i get 90 days european cover, with NIG

i doubt they would withold european cover based on your age, they usually just increase the premium / excess etc

but do you **really** want to spend your 4th day after passing negotiating french drivers? having driven to S. France in the car i don't think i would

your a very brave person to go so far after passing. its taken me two years to decide on that one and i'm finally off there in Aug.
Most insurance companies offer european cover, but double check with yours to make sure. I'm with carol nash and they provide it in with my insurance package.

In my experience most French drivers are more bike aware and much more curteous to bikes than thier British counterparts.

probably true, i hadn't thought of it that way - but shirley you'll be doing alot of motorway miles to get to southern france, it was a fair step to get down to bordeux in the car, but then i drove pretty much straight through...

if you were going to take a week to get there on scenic roads and back then that'd be awesome

Insurance covers you in all the EEC I believe these days, for third party at least. I think the 90 day limits are for the same cover as you have in the UK. ie Fully Comp.

However I personally would not want you along on a trip as far as this only days after passing your test. You will not be familiar with the bike or riding long distances and the weather will be hot (hopefully). I would consider you quite a liability.

However if you do go, make sure you have full breakdown and accident recovery, just in case, and perhaps medical insurance too.

Riding in France is easier, cos the other road users are FAR more bike aware and tolerant.

Good luck for the 19th

What insurance deal is this? I thought the £99 was for the GSX-R 600, or have they changed it (it's run out now, anyway). I'll have to check about the 90 days euro cover, i'm not sure it's fully comp although my insurance is. I had heard about insurance having to be valid everywhere though, so will check it out. I'm off to France on the GSX-R in July so I need to know - I want fully comp!!

Don't take note of the naysayer's mate. Do it, you will love it. I've never done a trackday but am heading to Nurburgring next week via France. Driving in France is a hell of a lot better than in this country. Roads, are better, drivers are more curteous (unless you feel the need to ride into central Paris) and the scenery is lush. You will gain you lots of valuable experience. Just take it steady, read the road ahead, think about self preservation and you will do fine.

I think i will check when i get a quote for my insurance that i included insurance for France in that.

About getting used to riding my bike, i have already had a go on sv650 on private land and compared to my dads Triumph Trophy, the sv is very light.

TBH I don't really want to be on the back of my mates speed 4 all the way to south France.

May not have loads of riding experience but been on road since i was 16, 50cc and then a year on a 125. More experience then most new riders. The only difference that i haven't done this on a big bike.
