rrr rrr Traffic light camera

I think I've made myself £60 poorer and my first ever 3 points tonight. 1/2 mile from my house, in no real hurry in the cage, set of traffic lights with a camera on them (which I've been familiar with for years) see the lights the other way go amber so changed lane rolled up to lights almost stop my lights go Red & Amber and I roll though... FLASH 'oh ****' I think but don't do anything FLASH 'bollox if I'd stamped on the brakes maybe they'd have let me off' too late by then. Stupid, silly, dumb lots of other words. I just feel gutted. Spotless record (in terms of points) for first ten years of driving now this. I think that at 28 (by time of renewal) and with hopefully only those 3 points the hit on my insurance won't be too bad but grrrh I'm annoyed and knotted in the stomach and stuff.

Traffic light 101:
Green = proceed if safe to do so.
Amber (after a green, before a red) = stop if possible and safe to do so
Red = stop
Amber (after red, on the way to green, this is commonly Red and Amber, and if so, assume the red part above) = get ready to go, but wait for my signal (green light)
Flashing Amber = proceed if way ahead is clear and it's safe to do so.

Cut & dry to me. Yep, honest mistake, but still illegal (just as illegal as doing 34 in a 30 because you weren't concentrating).

However, first 3 points? When you declare it, they'll ask for the code. SP30 (speeding) insurers don't care about. I'm not sure where they stand on running red lights, but I suspect it'll be the same.

Where was it mate? Weren't the Queen Elanor lights was it?

Baph - I thought the order was always Green, Amber, Red, Red & Amber, Green... to avoid confusion as to where in the cycle you are.

So I agree yes it clear cut. I was in the wrong. I'm still annoyed though at myself and at the fact that a tiny margin of error changes the whole picture.

That is one possible order (green, amber, red, red & amber, green), but it could equally be Green, Amber, Red, Flashing Amber, Green.

I've also seen Green, Amber, Red, Amber, Green.

My description above was more for Stu's benefit, and wasn't supposed to reflect the order of events, just what you're exected to do at each stage.

i was sat at a crossroads on me bike t'other day, the road i was on is joining a major road, as is the traffic opposite. 4 way lights, i'm sat there for best part of 5 minutes, the lights opposite have changed 3 times and mine not once. there's a queue of about 5 cars behind me, i can only deduce the lights are activated by a sensor under the road, me and my bike arent heavy enough to trigger it, so after the lights opposite have gone green a 4th times i move across and nip in behind the last car but obviously jumping the red.

im awaiting a ticket, where would i stand if i get the call? tough boobies or contestable?

At least not on a UK road, maybe in your dreams/imagination
(unless as you say flashing amber)
