New to the forum, must says its pretty good!
Anyway sorry if this has been posted before, i've searched and couldnt find anything. I was wondering what the law was for riding a unresticted bike while on your 33bhp period. I was thinking that it'd be the same as riding without a lisence as your lisence doesnt cover over 33bhp? And also I see police always stopping derestricted peds/125s which are on L plates and just getting a smack on the wrist, so is it the same for big bikes? |

I don't know of anyone on here getting caught riding a de-restricted bike on a 33bhp licence. I don't recomend being the first to find out.

From what i can fathom out that you are saying....Can a bike be de-restricted on a 33bhp licence and the police not find out?
Possibly they won't find out, but what about if you crash on the de-restricted bike when it should've been restricted? Insurance find out, could be quite consequential. I'm always umming and ahhing about doing it but then i think of that. HTH |

From what I've heard, if you're pulled over by a traffic cop, you're treated as having no licence, or insurance (because you don't have a licence). Basically, you might of well stolen the bike, but can't be charged with theft if you own it legally (your name on the V5).
If your name isn't on the V5 (parents bought on HP for example), then driving without a licence/insurance AND theft of a vehicle, unless the registered keeper tells them that you were allowed to ride it, in which case they can be prosecuted too. If your name is on the V5, and no attempt has been made to restrict the bike, that's apparently a lesser offence than if a restrictor kit has been fitted then removed (as the latter is knowingly commiting an offence, the former you could have been told it has a restrictor, but not known what to check for). Worst case? You end up in court for a potentially massive fine (plus court fees) and maybe even jail time too, especially if the officer considers you to of been driving dangerously (eg filtering) at the time you were stopped. Your bike can also be seized & auctioned or crushed, or you might be lucky and have it left with you. Risk a possible ban for driving/riding without a licence/insurance, and after the ban is over (or even if the ban doesn't happen) you have to inform any future insurance company (for 6 years IIRC) of the offence, and then watch them skyrocket your premiums. The chance of you being stopped by a traffic cop is fairly remote, and if they do stop you, will they know about the restriction? That's besides the point really, because if you get a rectification notice, then it'll be noticed by the MOT guy, who SHOULD refuse to MOT the bike, and you end up back in court for not providing documents in time. See above paragraph. Also, all of the above counts for any speed camera that catches you going too fast, or if your involved in any accident (fault or non-fault). Do you want to risk it? My mate got stopped back when I was at college. I was on the back of his 125, he had L plates on (not allowed to take pillions). I also wasn't wearing a lid! The cop was a dog officer, with a dog in the back. He caught up with us at a roundabout, and when he stopped us, he openly said that if we'd of pulled away from the roundabout before he got there, he wouldn't of bothered coming after us. That cop didn't know the bike laws, so got on the radio to ask advice of a traffic cop. He also mentionned where we had been stopped to this traffic cop, who took it upon himself to turn up at the scene. The dog cop openly said that if it were just him there, we'd of both had a caution & nothing more said about it. The traffic cop ensured that my mate ended up with 6 points on his licence, and a £2000 fine. Since I was partly to blame, I helped pay the fine although I didn't have to. I'd love to know where, and how you KNOW they're restricted and the riders are only getting slapped wrists. |

Ok thanks for the help! For the record I never intended to ride deresticted when I do get my lisence I was just trying to find some clarification on the law.
As for where I see people get stopped, as I do ride a ped still I know some people that ride them, and no I dont go around with them in their packs, I find their riding god-aweful. But I was told the other day that they were stopped in my local town about eight of them by traffic cops all detestricted and with race exhausts, without the baffles and all they were told is not to do it again. |

How do you find your bike on the 33BHP does it cruise at 70 and how is the acceration compaired to other bikes?

lol sadly still waiting for the restriction kit on the 20th all fingers crossed but in another post (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=85082) people have answered me that they are still pretty nippy but mine is carburetter model (curvy original shape 98-02) so don't know how it would differ from the injection model (03 onwards i think)
