Default new glove concerns

Hi All,

As it's (nearly) my birthday, i decided to treat myself to some summer gloves (i'm hoping we do actually get *some* summer this year!). They're Frank Thomas £40 ones with a short cuff, fingers fit well, however i've one concern:

With the cuff velcro'd on it's still relatively easy to pull the glove off my hand. I like the gloves but i don't want them to come off in an accident.

Your thoughts?

Well if it's still fairly easy to pull the gloves off when they're done up it's a good possibility that if you do end up testing them they may well get pulled off your hands

i would look for a pair that you cant pull off

I'm with DD, you don't want your gloves coming off when sliding along tarmac! They should be hard to pull off (like your mate yanking on the glove) with the cuff done up. without having to do up the cuffs so tight they cut off circulation to your hands.

wouldnt of thought they would fall off anyway if you did have an off. your going forwards so the force of the tarmac would be pushing them in the opposite direction...up your arm. couldnt see them coming off to be honest

That's what i was thinking - i don't want to take them back unless i have to.

Unless i'm sliding for a great distance backwards or with my hands behind me I couldn't see them coming off, but obviously i'd rather not take any unnecessary risks.

If somethings gonna take your glove off, it'll take your glove off and nothings gonna stop it. Not likely though, I reckon.

I had a £40 pair of Frank Thomas gloves, have to say my impression of their stuff isn't good.

Crashes are random, you could end up sliding down the road on your front, arms out it front, or along on your backside, arms dragging behind you. I've said this before but it's worth repeating - I've come off countless times on the road, and more times still on the track (lost count but I'm past 20 total now) - I've damaged my lid in perhaps half of those, but I've damaged my gloves in each and every one - you put your hands out instinctively to protect yourself. In my rarely-humble opinion gloves are the number two piece of safety gear (helmet naturally first).

Gravel rashed legs, arms and torso will hurt like hell, look ugly for the rest of your life and may kill you through blood loss - gravel rashed hands will do all this in a very public place, and due to small fingers will likely result in loss of digits or at the very least seriously impaired dexterity for the rest of your life. It's probably safe to say that at some point you will come off, and if my experience is any guide your hands will touch down at any speed between 5 and 100 (or more), if your gloves come off then that's your hands ruined for the rest of your life.

Sorry if I came across like your dad
