Same applies for throttle body sync's too. Runs a lot smoother and delivers more power quicker when they're in sync as opposed to fighting each other.

I hate mine even when it's only slightly out. Sounds like a bag of spanners. Sounds lovely when it's all in sync though.

So presuming you 'whacked' the throttle wide open to do the wheelie and assuming the butterflies weren't like 90 degrees out before balancing ... i.e. when balanced, it is generally done at idle and we are only talking differences of perhaps 10ths of a degree between 'way out' and spot on ...

Anyway for a wheelie, I presume you whack the throttle open (to 90 degrees) ... that 10th of a degree to balance is now pretty meaningless ... with this in mind how would 'balanced' carbs make any discernable difference to the power at all?

Or is this another placebo like the R6 throttle tube debate??

I am sure it idles really smoothly, but as you can tell from my tone, I really REALLY can’t see how fractions of a degree gives a power increase/discernable differences at throttle openings …

BTW I have never balanced any of my SVs (I have the kit, but don't see the point) … but I've balanced IL4s and it is a right faff … 1/8th turn on the adjusters makes a massive difference to the readings … I don’t know how much an eighth of a turn actually relates in degrees at the butterfly, but like I said, if it’s more than 1/10th I’d be mighty surprised*!!

*you certainly can’t ‘see’ any big difference

On the pointy, you don't even need 1/8th of a turn on the adjusters for throttle bodies!! The last couple of times I've done mine, all I had to do was practically breathe on the adjuster screw!

I also balance at idle, then check & adjust where needed at around 8k RPM. Get them balanced at higher revs for an even more smooth ride. SoulKiss, if you read this, we'll be doing this to your bike too!

Blue, you're probably right, it probably doesn't add anything to power (or rather, it does, but it's such a small amount you'd need a very accurate Dyno to tell). It's more about a smoother power delivery, rather than spitting out more fire, IMO.

There's no placebo issue here, you can feel the difference between a badly balanced SV and one that works- I used to balance mine by feel, obviously not very precise but you can feel and hear the difference the adjustment makes immediately, and it's obvious enoguh to get within spitting distance of balance, at idle or at 5000rpm. Give the adjuster a spin and you'll see what i mean, you can even see the revs rise and fall as you do it. It's nothing to do with throttle openings etc, it's got more in common with jetting IMO.
