Default strange flat tyre

on the way back from bradford to cardiff, on the M6 i get a flat tyre, its flater than posh spices chest, so i come off at warsall find a petrol station & try to pump it up. but it was not working(one of them new type in the presure 50p a go jobs), so i limp around on a flat tyre looking for a bike shop ½ hour later i find one but its shut

so i go to another petrol station, this time it works, so i put 40psi in (its the old fashion dail on the hand bit FREE) & plan to get home asap stopping every so often to pump it up, but i get all the way home & its showing 34psi, which its showing now3 days later.

so what could have caused this?

Bit of a mystery there H, I've heard this theory before...

Centrafugal (sp?) force tends to open the valve a little bit, if it then gets grit in it, it could deflate, you pushing air thru it may have cleared it.

Using valve caps with a seal should stop this.

Have you checked you havnt got a nail or something in the tyre which has now embeded itself enough to seal the hole. Had one in mine that deflated like mad until it had gone in enough to seal the hole.

I'd go with dodgy valve too.

Bit of an unfair comment about Posh though, she's had quite a rack installed.
