I need some help with picking out a can and some tires for my next motorcycle....
Alright. My new SV650 is coming SOON. It will either be a very and minimalist sexy 2000 cusom dark green with a NICE Yosh pipe, new Pilot tires, some carbon fiber (real and fake) bits, a tire hugger, rear fender elimiator, custom lights and more all for $3500. The bike has been VERY VERY VERY well taken care of (11,500 miles) Sexy 2000: http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/phot...36367_2724.jpg OR a newer and less attractive stock (save the GIVI windscreen) blue 2001 with far fewer miles (only 5900 miles) and a pair of original tires that are starting to develop a flat spot for only $3100 The bike seems very well taken care of. 2001 look-a-like: http://www.mikeschinkel.com/Motorcyc...Bags-small.JPG Not the bike... just a copy-cat I still can't decide on which one to get (they both look great). But I will surely have ONE of the two within the week. If I get the 2000, I won't be doing much but riding it and making sure it stays looking good. BUT if I get the blue 2001, I'm going to want to change some things. First off the original tires are starting to develop a flat spot. I also don't enjoy the sound of the stock exshaust. SO, assuming I get the 2001,: 1.Should I be worried? The bike only has 5900miles and I thought the stock tires were supposed to last almost 8000miles. Perhaps I'm being paraniod? 2.What Tires should I get to replace them? I am a fairly agressive rider at times, but usually I cruise along like a good boy. I am also the type of person who may just ride in the wet from time to time.... not to mention I can put serious miles on a bike in a few months and would like a tire that can last. 3.I used to ride an old and loud Harley. I would like a louder sound to come out of the bike... nothing crazy, but louder than stock. The Yoshimura pipe I have heard on the 2000 sounds great, but I don't need anything thundering... just something that sounds good, doesn't look stupid, and will help drivers notice me a little bit more. It can be louder than my ex-girlfriend at 8000rpm BUT I would like to keep my ears from bleeding below 3000rpm. I'm also not looking for extra power right now and don't need the WHOLE sha-bang, just the can. A lightweight bike with roughly 70hp makes plenty of power for my 135 pound frame currently. 4. I am a cheapskate. I would like to do whatever will save me $$$$. I'm paying for college right now and have regular bills (with 2 bad partime jobs to boot). Any money I can save will make me a happy camper! 5. What kind of things should I watch out for in regular upkeep? CAN you SV-Masters help me? What parts should I get for the 2001? Or should I just get the 2000? Is that practical? I've got to think this all over in only a couple of days. Last edited by Posky; 25-06-07 at 07:44 AM. Reason: wrote entire post drunk. |
