Default Safari 3 Beta

OK for the IT folks on here, if you want a browser that renders quickly, and I do mean quickly, Safari 3 is it.

There are a couple of things wrong that I've noticed, like it doesn't like rendering HTML that isn't spot on, but if you're coding HTML, it should be spot on anyway!!

As a test, I opened both IE7 & Safari 3. In IE7, went to http://news.bbc.co.uk ... as soon as I hit enter, go to Safari, and do the same. I refreshed the page approx 5 times in Safari before IE7 had finished loading.

just if we are talking about the windows port for Safari here, last I heard it was still very much in alpha state compared to stability with even Firefox 3.

And when it does crash and burn, which it seems to do a lot of in WinLand, you cannot do the Restore Previous Session thing that you can in Firefox.

It is meant to be quick though... one to watch I would say, more than switch over to just yet.

just downloaded it and using it on as you say winland.
looks ok, and seems to be a little quicker than IE7, but I don't know my way round it yet... will have a play around.

yeah safari is great. On my mac it is just the best. faster than firefox even on the windows port. It is smooth too.. But yeah very much in a beta state.

you will find firefox takes up a lot of cpu cycles as well when just sitting there as safari seems to use less memory and less cycles most of the time!

Will be great when it finally comes out of beta

just binned it off, as it crashed a few times even after a full reboot, really slowed down loads, so IE7 is now the default and Safari is removed.

There's not as many plugins/extensions as in Firefox, and for me, it's lacking the important Mouse Gestures (but I have a 3rd party app that I can run to get those in any app).

It's a heck of a lot faster than any other browser I've used so far, and I have things like SeaMonkey installed (so far, I'm only talking about the Windows port - but it'll be installed at home when I can be bothered - Linux machine, so tantamount to the same thing as the Mac version).

Safari looks odd, mainly because it's a Mac theme'd application, in a Windows environment.

Other than that, I haven't found any show stoppers yet, so I'll keep using it until it dies a death on me. Left it running overnight, doing nothing, and now Safari is using 148Mb RAM. I think there's probably a memory leak or three.

I'll stick with it though (since I work in Web Development), and update Safari as new versions are released.

EDIT: Also, mouse scroll wheel works, but you can't click the wheel down to lock scroll, it simply doesn't work. Odd.
