Unhappy Help oil leak

Can somebody tell me if there are any common oil leak problems on the SV650 on a T plate. I was going quite hard thru the gears tonight when a big cloud appeared behind me. The bike is covered in oil from the where the gear shift enters the engine casing backwards so i think thats the spot it leaks from, and it drips every half second from that junction.

I changed the sprockets about six months ago not sure if that is relevant.

Please help its my only transport

Until someone more mechanical posts something actually useful here, I think as far as I know it is safe to say *looks left and right* that there no known issue with oil leaks on the sv of any year. It's probably an unlucky one-off thing. Hope you get it sorted soon.

From your description (big cloud behind you) and in the absense of anyone else offering an opinion, I would hazard a guess that the oil seal on the end of the gear shift shaft has

What's anyone else think??

It has happened to me 3 times. The first one, when I was trying to reach top speed, the next I was doing about 90mph and the last... trying to get it started. No mechanic has offered a satisfactory cure/explanation yet and I'm seriously thinking about giving away the bu**er, I could run out of luck as this oil gets right onto the rear wheel.

Check the out put shaft seal, I know grinch and a few others have had problems with this caused by the sprocket locknut backing off.

So a damaged locknut is the culprit for this keeping happening? I've been changing the seal (well not me, the mechanic) with new every time.

locknut or lock washer.nut get loose and spacer behind sprocket moves out.when it does there is no seal between spacer and oil seal and oil pours out.
cure is to use new washer and nut every time you take it off and torque it to specified torque(145Nm).
