Default Doh, scratched my bike!!

Nasty scratch in my lowers this AM when I was getting my bike out of the garage (evidently rubbed it up against a paddock stand) ...

I was most annoyed

I think second to malicious damage, inadvertent/avoidable self damage is the most annoying!!

I'll try and polish it out a bit but it has gone right down

Yeah totally. My old hack blew over onto my car - didn't do anything to the bike but put a bloody big dent in the bonnet, which was even more annoying as I had just sold the car to a mate.

My girlfriend also has a skill for scratching the tail pannels with er boots grrrrrrrrrrrr

Panels on the back of my bike in need of a respray. Bloody panniers took the paint off on their first outing!

I'm having to live with this on my bike until i can afford to have it repaired

The rest of the bike is immaculate and it really pains me to see it like that.

Ah, some of that good quality masking tape is what you want (not the cheap stuff as it leaves glue all over the bike if it gets wet). Works a treat. I also cut up an old set of grips to protect the paint from the bungies. I think oxford do some rubber net thing you can put under the panniers too but I've not tried that.

I bought the bike like that, it had been dropped by a mate and the bars came round into the tank. Everything else has been replaced with used but immaculate parts, but I'll be getting the whole bike painted once I fit a Gixer K5 fairing and K4 seat unit to it.

The plan is to have two aftermarket front cowls, one with a headlight and one without, but both painted to match the aftermarket race lowers and an E-marked tail-light hidden behind a bit of dark tinted perspex in the black painted rear. I'll devise and build a quickly detachable numberplate/indicator mount for track use.

I'm looking at replicating the Silver Rizla BSB Gixer Thous that were raced at the last meeting of 2003

The rubber anti-slip mat I use under my panniers came from Lidl or Aldi. It cost 3 quid for two huge pieces - that's a massive saving over what Oxford charge for the poxy little piece of exactly the same stuff. Tribo-seat covers are made from the same stuff, and they are stupidly expensive for what they are. Any numpty with access to a sewing machine could knock one up exactly the same in 5 minutes for about 50p.

About 24 hiurs after I finished respraying my bike I didn't put it on its sidestand right- only time I've ever done that, too, after 3 years of ownership- and mangled one of the mirrors

How do you tell the difference?

(without the paint test)
