Hi All,
I've just got a Sat Nav for the bike, after one journey, with a map in tank bag! Nightmare, pulling over and turning pages, ruining my ride! Anyways, I live in Berkshire, Nr Ascot/Bracknell way and I would like to know if any of you know any garages that fit these? It would be much appreciated. Many Thanks in Advance. Its not going fast that kills you, its coming to the sudden stop that does it! ![]() |

Easiest solution is to put the regular car sat nav in the tank bag and wire in a ciggy lighter to the bike's electrics.

Cheers Matt,
I am some what of a novice, so I don't know how to do even this! Sorry, I do have a bar mount, so thats not a problem, It also came with the bear wires ready to connect to the bikes electrics, I just don't know what I'm doing! I dare fiddle around with it, I've only just got it! That said, I am looking at getting another bike with more of a sporty riding position..... |

Easiest option for wiring is probably to cut into the registration plate light - this is really simple to do and means the power will only be supplied form the battery with the ignition on.
As for actual mounting I can't say - I fitted a hard case mount to my inner fairing which keeps the thing clear of all instruments and controls and can be viewed very easily though I tend to really on voice commands when its needed. |

On further inspection, I've noticed my Fazor's wiring runs mostly below the tank from the front lights and instruments, so I would like to bundle the wire for the Sat Nav with that lot to keep it tidy, I also notice that you can undo a single 10mm bolt and the tank will lift and swivel towards the rider on its back bolt fixings, any objections to doing this?!?!? I'm such a beginner, thanks very much for all your comments and patience, registration light fixing is a great idea, as this will only be on when key turned, nice one, any other pointers I should look out for, avoid etc, as to, running the wires etc??? |

If you take the feed from one of the lights (sidelight or rear numberplate light always a good idea - sidelight possibly neater, rear numberplate light often easier to get to the wires) just remember to wire in parallel rather than series. To be honest I doubt it'd blow up if in series, you'd just get a dim light (and not enough juice to the sat nav).
Double check voltage requirements, the bike runs 12 volts, the sat nav *might* require 5. The ciggy adaptors that come with car sat navs do the 12-5 transforming in the adaptor so no worries there, if wiring a bike specific sat nav directly in then you might need to do jiggery-pokery to get 5 volts. You could even take a feed directly off the battery if you wanted but make sure you stick an inline fuse in there, and obviously remember to disconnect if you don't want a flat battery. The beauty of taking a light feed is that it's switched on only upon ignition. |

Oh, and on the tank raising, sounds like it's the same arrangement as the SV tank, it's what they're supposed to do, just do everything slow and careful so as to avoid pulling/snagging lines/wires/etc

Nice one, I shall play around, what do you mean by parallel or series connection though? I've had a look under the seat and there is a connection for the rear lights, the connection has a black, yellow and blue wire feeding to the bulbs, the black I assume is the earth, but the yellow and blue I'm confused by! Any suggestions??
