Default K & N Air filter?

Should I get a K&N air filter? Twice the price of a standard but I am sh1te at maintenance and left my current one to go pretty black. I also plan on keeping my SV for the next 5 years.
But I am not prepared to pay £120 for a remap after fitting the K&N.

Many thanks

Thanks Hovis, but I still would like some more opinion as to whether it will damage anything as I don't intend to remap it.
Have there been any other threads about K&N I've missed (too short to search for)

I've just fitted one and i'm very pleased with the improved throttle response and better low down grunt. Doubt you would need a remap but i'm no expert!

i was told by royston perforance (he used to work on superbikes) that it was very rare that the curvy would need jetting of anything, not sure about a pointy but i think it ok

That's because the K&N for the curvy is s*** An air filter that doesn't need a remap/rejet isn't flowing any better. THe only thing the K&N does better than the stock one is be cleanable, but the BMC Street is a better choice if you want a cleanable, non-performance filter, it was designed for the job whereas the K&N's a failed race filter.

But, pointies are different, and I haven't a scoob what works in those. Sorry! Cleanable is nice, if you'll do a lot of miles, it'll pay for itself- and pointy filters are easy to clean too. Performance, I don't know about.
