I'm a big Joy Division fan, I remember this cover going out live in with the Glastonbury footage a few years ago now and being mesmorised by it. I dont know why but I really like it, but I feel like I oughta hate it.

Its certainly a different take on the song, and I think they were damn brave to cover it in this way.

I always find covers a bit strange. I say this as the original song by JD was writen with meaning and feeling by JD who sang it and it therefore not only sounded good it had true meaning for the band and therefore inparts something to the listener that I think no cover can.

A classic, if a little extreme example of this, is when you get peope who cover Yesterday by the Beatles. They sit there and smile as they sing!!! have they not thought about and understood what the song is actually about! Another good example of this was when All Saints covered "under the bridge" by RHCP.

I rest my case.

not realy a joy division fan, but the origanal is pretty good, but the cover, IMO was rubbish

I don't really like it, it's like a Bristol/North West London second-rate Morcheeba clone Trip Hop. That said, I don't hate it and it's not bad from a technical POV.

If you think this cover is bad, you should hear V/Vm's version.

Squarepusher did a decent version, but it didn't really add much to the original.

Sacrilige.

Ian Curtis sang it with a real energy - anger, pain, the whole song was filled with the pent-up emotion of someone filled with angst which bought a real meaning to the lyrics, every 'twang' of Hookie's bass chipped away another chunk of what was once a deep and meaningful relationship now breathing it's last few breaths of life,

This version was by some bint who could never hope to do the original any justice.

Anyone going to see Control?
