Anyone know electronics?Please have a look at this

A fella on a (sh**e) Triumph website was flogging "dual headlight drivers". Basically he sells a box of tricks for bikes with one dipped headlight and one main beam, that feeds the main beam a little bit of juice to light it up and make the bike more visible and improve vision for the rider a wee bit at night. Thing is matey's flogging them for £35 from Australia! As far as I can make out it's just a variable potentiometer or thyristor or something like that. I want to make one myself so would appreciate some help. For my bike both lights have the same feed so there's no worry about overloading the wiring or anything. Here it is:

Looking at its size and the fact that there are three wires connected to it I would think it uses a power FET as a switch being pulsed with an oscillator, 555 timer chip perhaps. About £5 should buy all of the components.

Why not modify the side lights, seems like a long winded way for a small gain.

With how thats wired I reckon its putting the majority of the power to earth, why else would they need the earth wire to the box?

Because the sidelights are on anyway and with some main beam on it'll light up the road a tiny bit more.

The neutral must be to power the timer/thyristor or whatever else is in there. There shouldn't be any power going to Earth-that'd be a short!
