Default Fuel tank lock.

Anyone know if it's possible to change the internals of the fuel cap lock to use with a different key??

If just bought a complete set of body panels etc for my sv and intend on changing the colour, will the keep the originals handy for if I fancy a change!

I would like to have a lock on each tank that will accept the same key just so it saves the hassle of removing the filler cap.

Is it possible or is it just a pipe draem??

Regards

No it isn't. At least I have never heard anyone ever do it before. You know it only takes a short while to change over the complete cap from one to the other.

I know it doesn't take long but I'm a little strange like that and would love to have both tanks set up ready to swap over!

I used to do it on car/van lock barrels when they got damaged just didn't know if it was a) possible to do or b) possible to get the internals to lock from suzuki or somewhere!

I think there is a solution actually,
If you take the 'locking pins' out of the barrel then the tank will open when ANY key (that fits the slot) is inserted.

I've done this before on an ignition barrel so the bike could run with any Suzuki key. I'm sure it would work with the tank as well. The tank cap is really fiddly though. make sure you remove it from the tank first and work on a clean clear surface, you wouldn't want to drop a screw into the tank!! (like I did...)

If this was cool with you then, you'd just select one tank to have the a dedicated key (i.e. the same as ignition/seat) and the other works with anything.

That said though, the extra time taken to swap the locks over is nothing compare to the time taken to swap tanks? half hour job?

Surely it's easier to just undo the 3 (IIRC) allen bolts on each cap surround and swap em over. That's what I did with my colour change.

I'm just bein anally retentive about it really, just wasnted it all set up so I could change it back as and when without having to remove the cap.

Guess I'll just settle for the one cap!!

I'd be tempted to remove the pins from one cap. Just for the fun of it.

You could ask a dealer to order a cap from suzuki, they must do a key/lock matching.

Get the funny idea that'd cost an arm and a leg. How hard would it be to ride then?!?
