As one I know - I have had to change my eating habits drastically 2 years ago when i got diagnosed.

Diabetics don't eat anything special, we just cut out sugar, eat moderate carobohydrates watch the fat etc, in other words sensible.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, look at adopting a low GI eating regime. It doesn't have to be boring, also consider an active/sporty excercise regime as well.

A good mix of both gets weight off, keeps it off, and keeps you living longer.

True, but as a diabetic you need to be careful with you exercising as you can get hypo when you get too low. I lost over a stone within less than a week when I was diagnosed last year. But would not recommended that as a weight reducing idea. You sort off perform Atkin's diet as your body does not use carbs as a source of energy so it start using the body fat and muscles as energy resources.

I weighed myself for the first time I started training. In three weeks of eating more heathily and cycling for an hour most nights ( I have been having the odd night off ) I've lost 1/2 stone. I'm quite pleased with myself.

Oh right. Fizz, just looking in your sig, this tour of Wessex event is UCI affiliated? Ahh. I see. You will be seeing some good guys there so.
Very good. The pace up at the top of the field is going to be pretty lively I would guess. Stay clear of those lads.

Ha ha. I am just looking at the route there. You are going to feel it at mile 20ish. Back to back climbs. From there in is cake though.

I'm staying away from the big boys, yep I'm not that daft  Yep it is UCI affiliated.

I'm doing the 55 mile route, though not the longer ones. Maybe thats for next year. It has got a couple of climbs in it. Should be a nice challenge for me.

Well I ate one of these tonight ... yep the whole thing  .. I didn't mean to but you know what its like .. you cut off a bit ... then put the rest back ... then ... well you go get a bit more ... :D ... you started so you have to finish right?!?! Oh and it was to wash down a nice curry ... so I had had that too :D

Nearly 1/2 a kilo of pure Yummy 8)

Not only did I feel a bit sick after, but I consequently felt/feel really bloated and really guilty ...

Here's my twisted logic to make myself feel a bit better ... there is no way my body can take in that many calories in one hit right?!?! ... so most of it will pass through my system?!!?!? :? Oh god I hope it does!!!! :D

re

My normal weight is about 15 stones , I am 6 ft tall btw .

I lost 3 stones training to run a half marathon in 6 months , just by cutting back on junk food & running about 25 miles a week !

Trouble is when I weighed my correct weight 12 stone , everyone said I looked ill !

Now back to 15 stones , can eat / drink what I want & I don't vary.

The only way I could keep to 12 stones is if I ran 25 miles a week , I don't think so !

Good luck with the diets

Cheers Steve
