Oh my. Just caught up with this thread again.

Seems to be a bit of confusion.

SupaSonic is right. Technically it is not possible to have a true period and be pregnant at the same time. In pregnancy, estrogene and progesterone are produced which supress the ovaries and therefore ovulation cannot take place.

Most women that say they have had a period in pregnancy really haven't. In the first trimester they may have bleeding which is very similar in pattern to their normal period, but this is unlikely to continue further on in the pregnancy. Bleeding in the first trimester is an implantation bleed which normally then settles down.

There are many other causes for bleeding in pregnancy which should always be checked out as bleeding in pregnancy is not normal at all.

HOWEVER, as we all know nothing is ever black and white. There is a school of thought that suggests that it IS possible to have a period in pregancy. There apparently has been some research done into this (I'm yet to come across it) and evidence to suggest that this is possible but extremely rare.

paws I hope your cousin makes the right decision for herself. I can understand the burying the head in the sand thing - I did it myself recently when I found myself up the duff. Head still not fully out the sand yet but getting there and Im slightly older than 13. In fact my eldest child is older than 13
