Option 4: phone the council, find out the contact for the roadworks and call them, tell them the delay is too long and they'll change it, especially if it's causing traffic tailbacks. we don't go out of our way when designing new roads to cause maximum chaos with temporary lights

if you think you can see then it's your choice to do it or not, personally i would never jump the light, they might have stopped both directions so a large piece of heavy plant can exit the works safely, having worked around some of it you could quite easily end up underneath it and the driver would never know...

The gap has to be set to allow for slowest vehicle to get through. As the lights have been there a long time. not only you will have noticed the gap, others will too and some chav is likely run the amber/red the other way. Not worth it for 20 seconds.

The start up procedure on the lights generator is to stop all traffic, the sequencer kicks in a little later, if you can get to the controls it's very easy. The generator should always be locked.

Silly questions deserve silly answers
Of course you should jump the red light and hope nobody jumps it coming the other way.
The way to go------two wrongs make a right

I would wait. I presume the delay is for contractors to have a break in the traffic. Would not be good to get speared by a jcb.

A red light is a red light temporary or not. I have almost been killed by some stupid old codger who decided to jump a red light after we had stopped all 4 ways (yes a very busy cross-roads) and to make it worse his wife in the passenger seat gave us the finger, shocking considering she was easily in her 70s. They were lucky I can't throw for s*** because if I hadn't missed they'd have had a 15inch adjustable spanner through their back window.
Some people just don't care if they put other's lives in danger if they can get to their destination 30 seconds earlier:thumbdown:

In that situation, waiting a mere 30-40 seconds, I'd wait.

However, I've been on a certain road near me quite a few times in a similar position. Picture the scene:

It's dark, you can obviously tell that there are no cars either waiting to come through the roadworks or even approaching the roadworks (in some instances you can see that a mile after the roadworks there's nothing coming the other way to you are). You're in an NSL doing "NSL" speeds, and the light you're coming up on is red. If there is any workmen at the roadworks, they're working in complete darkness, because there's no street lighting, and no lighting for the roadworks.

My reaction? So long as I'm sure that nothing is coming (and remember, I know the road, I know there's no side turnings, despite it being dark), hold the throttle exactly where it is & ignore the light. In that situation, you've no idea how long you'll be there (I'd guess a max of 5mins depending on the setting for the lights), and there's NOTHING coming the other way.

Totally agree Baph, besides you don't want to be sitting stationary in the dark on a bike unless you have a death wish.
