USA sales figures for consoles

Quote:

Hardware sell-through for November are as follows, with The simExchange predictions in brackets for comparison purposes.
Wii - 950,000 (1,060,000)
Xbox 360 - 750,000 (728,000)
PS3 - 420,000 (410,000)
PS2 - 485,000 (n/a)
PSP - 650,000 (468,000)
DS - 1,350,000 (1,300,000)
GBA - 170,000 (n/a)

PS3 ranks 2nd from last in terms of sales -even the old PS2 is still outselling the PS3. LOL!

360 is by far and away the top selling next-gen console.

Oh, and by the way, the new 360 chipset uses less power and genrates less heat than the old one and solves the overheating issue. Buy one with a HDMI connector built in with confidence.

I just did. What's so special?

Most of what I saw wasn't gameplay, just silicon graphics rendered video - not realtime.

I have to admit, in hindsight I would have bought a 360 when they came out as the online play is unbeatable (although I'd be on my 4th by about now;)). I do think the PS3 is the console to get now though, I just need to raise the money :)

(I don't know who would buy a DS)

thats games best offer, you get 2 decent games, 2 wireless controllers and a 256mb memory card

But that's the rather pants Arcade or "Core" version. You know you can't even watch replays of Forza 2 without a HDD connected, so you'd have to buy that seperately on top of that.

I'm in the same boat as you though. I want one, but can't justify the outlay just to play one or two games.

+ it's out of date after about 6mnths and you have to continously upgrade the graphics card/motherboard/chip set just to keep abreast of the top titles ;)

This is another thing that is confunsing me at the moment?? some have HDMI some dont?

A lad I know has just bought an Arcade from game and even this has the HDMI port, you just need to buy the cable? or am I missing something here.

I'm tempted to just get the core with 2 wireless controllers and 256mb memory card as iam unlikely to fill a fardrive with music and download games off live, which is the only benefit i can see of having a more expensive console, again i may be missing something?......... But them the premium and elite arnt all that much more.

Just been reading the info on the arcade, it has the hdmi thing now built in, also has a new heat sink pad to stop overheating and the red light problem. So sound like it has most of the technology now except the harddrive built in.

If any gaming elitists can confirm the fine details it would help me a fair bit when deciding how much to spend.

Confirmed.

HDD is essential only if you want to download content (extra maps for a game, updates, demos, arcade games, video, music, original xbox1 games etc).

At minimum to play online you need a memory card to store your profile, an XBL subscription and broadband. If you can connect your 360 using cabled LAN rather than wireless you need no extra hardware.

Since 4th Dec the machine can now play back divx, xvid, mp4 video either from disk or streamed from a pc.

True, but a newly built PC with better graphics than a ps3 will still have better graphics than a PC in 6 months, even if it is no longer the best graphics card. you dont have to upgrade, but you can if you want.
