I think it's genuine, and the guy's feedback is good. Might be worth a punt if it was cheap enough (about £800 under book price), and tbh I wouldn't even bother HPIing it cos the seller has already declared it's been a Cat D.

As long as you remember that it will still be an ex write off when you come to sell it,so price it accordingly.The seller sounds like a dealer to me,and therefore wont let it go for a song.Probably not worth it then?

I hit a car that turned across me a appox 15mph, front wheel was nearly touching the engine. A new faring exhaust and forks would have totaled the bike, the stock exhaust was £600 I went for an aftermarket that kept the value down to below right of level, but it was very close. Including recover cost they may as well have left the bike in germany and paid cash.
