Indeed, I've run a 170 remould on the stock SV rim and a 180 on the stock rim (I'll be putting that wheel back in once I have worn the 160 020 out I have in there at the mo 8)).

Oh and indeed, it might improve the handling (depending on what you are expecting it to 'do') ... I was just pointing out that even on the correct rim, it WILL effect the handling (possibly positivity, possibly very little, possibly lots, possibly negatively).

As for my 170 and 180 tyre choices, I did that as I had the tyres/got them cheap. I realised it'd probably make the bike handle differently to a 160 and it did - but I didn't care coz they didn't cost me much/'out !!!

I actually think the squeezed up 180 works pretty well 8) What I will say is that the bike felt 'better' with a proper (good condition) 160 in it ... ... but to be fair, there are so many variables* it is silly to say anything definitive that someone else could use!!

To take out a few permutations that different brand tyres would introduce, I'll tell you the 180 setup I have on mine ... it is a reasonably worn (1/2 - 2/3) 120/60 conti Attack on the front, and an old - but not very worn Macadam 180 on the rear ... works ok, steering is fairly neutral** ... not sure I'd want to try and get silly lean on it, but I only use my bike for commuting, so not an issue for me ...

*state/condition/profile of front and rear tyres for a starter!!

** better than with the prety worn 020 160 rear I have on there at the mo, and better than a 160 rear 120/70 front!!

all im sayin is that i put an oversized tyre on 2 a standard rim on a different bike and it was real bad!but i would think putting a different wheel in 2 use the 180 would be better than oversizeing the standard rim!

Quite possibly, but all I am saying is don't take it as read that it will ;)

Sometimes I could kiss you :smt057 That's exactly how I feel too. Billy says his bike was better with the 180, I prefer how it feels too, but the next person to try it might hate it. I like round-profiled tyres for their neutrality, so I don't mind slow roll-in, other people hate it- so those people would probably prefer a narrower tyre. People make this question so oversimplified, as if every 160 and every 180 was the same shape, or as though everyone wants the same feel from their bike. Funny old thing, taste.
