I have a mobile on '3' and one of its features is Skype for free.

This means my wife can call my mobile from the home pc for free.

I use skype quite a bit but have found a lot of delays etc on it however the sound quality is always better then msn or the like and i havent found a better alternative.

I use it every week to chat to my girlfriend who's studying in Morocco. Even with 10 million people on at one time the connection is, for something that doesn't cost a penny, fantastic. Very much approve!

In terms of other VOIP stuff, though not sure if these qualify, I use:

Xfire - game version of MSN, lets you chat, voice chat, lists your games, tells you what other people are playing, and lets you instantly join their server if you are playing the same game. Good if a group of you all want to play COD4 or Battlefield or whatnot.

Ventrilo - standalone voice server for running while playing games with mates
