Re: Paedophile Powers
Single mothers are the target for this sort of law though, really, aren't they? I think a power like this would just increase a climate of fear.

Re: Paedophile Powers
Well the government appears to be failing in education, and discipline amongst kids is rapidly diminishing, things that have a genuinely high chance of affecting most kids. So it sounds to me like this is nothing more than the government trying to distract people.

Re: Paedophile Powers
.. I fail to see how this information would in any way shape or form be of usefulness to parents.
If you are in a position to look after children ie nanny or nursary then you have not only certs to prove that you are qualified but you also have to have police checks to ensure that you cant and wont be putting children in danger. |

Re: Paedophile Powers
Many years ago, I started to see a single mum whose children were on the "At risk" register because of the actions of a babysitter. As a result, she was visited regularly by social services.
After about a month, the social worker ask if she could take up a statutory reference on me. I was annoyed that some interfering government official wanted to check if I was a known perv. Nobody would have been interested in our relationship if it wasn't for the actions of somebody I had never met. Reluctantly I agreed, the social worker told us 2 weeks later that they were happy for us to continue our relationship. So I guess I must have passed. Unfortunately, I think the power must exist to take up a reference against anyone who is to have unsupervised access to your children. As my case above proves. However, the problem was not the babysitter, it was her boyfriend who she had let in. A check on the individual would not have found that. How can you check against that. |
