I think he was meaning with relation to the 90mph bike he mentioned. I used to do about 10 miles of dual carriageway every day on my Virago 125, which led to the very proud day when I actually managed to break a 70mph speed limit (indicated) with the proverbial tailwind-down-a-hil approach, tucked in behind my apehangers. Now that sort of hopeless commuting machine really teaches you some stuff about not slowing down. Not like on a proper bike where you can get to any speed limit in under 5 seconds without having it break a sweat.

Everyone should own a complete *****er once in their life, if you've ever said an SV is underpowered or doesn't handle, you've never commuted on a Cub 90 or a Virago 125 or a scooter made of rust.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the worlds most accomplished commuter bike, the 1981 Yamaha SR250 flat-tracker conversion. 85mph top speed, next to useless brakes, high bars, slim single cylinder, economical, cheap (?300 for this one with rebuild costs), cheap to run (75mpg)

A colleague who rides about 30K a year, most of this done riding between 90 and a shade under 100 on the motorway (when it's safe to do so), he regularly filters at 80-90, ignores the solid white lines which are unnecessary (don't make sense) for bikes and has yet to have a court appearance as a result. Whenever police have pulled him, he has been let off with a warning. Mind you, he's an old(ish) chap with a beard on a Pan, with a white lid, riding during working hours. Try the same thing on a sunny sunday on a sportsbike, dressed like a power ranger, as a 20 year old male and I imagine they'd be a bit less forgiving.

With a fresh licence like yours they'll do you for any minor offence!

I ride like an old woman so I've never been pulled by the fuzz.*

*Apart from when I was a learner and knocked my headlight switch to off on my 125, they had a little chat about riding with no lights in town and let me go.

You mean with your right hand indicator constantly flashing accompanied by random braking and occasional excursions across to the white line and back like the old dear i was following this morning?
