Who are these people?? ... in this day and age, very few people under the age of say 50 I can tell you that!! ;) .. as for the people over 50, especially the most likely candidates to have that sort of viewpoint (the pensioners) will all be dead soon enough, so the problem then goes away!! 8)

Things and attitudes evolve, it just takes time that is all. By burning bras and making statements about it is actually having the opposite effect, its actually highlighting something is ‘wrong’ and hence segregating yourselves from the pack .. if you just shut up about it and got on with it, no one would care and it would seem a lot more natural .. its basic psychology ..

But we all know you girls like to make a fuss about anything/everything!! :D

Oh and ask any bloke on here - if you found out a girl (you didn't know already) rides a bike - it makes her cool!! :cat: Not a tom-boy!!

Long gone are the days when a girl having the same interest/s as a bloke is a bad thing, just the opposite!! :eye: For example, assuming they don't already, few blokes on here would say they wouldn't want a partner that was at least semi-interested in bikes!! ;)

My mother be one of them. A few years ago she would have crumpled at the idea of me on a motorbike, or white water rafting or climbing. She has now realised that this is what people do and as a result doesn't chew my ear off with "well I don't agree with it, girls your age ...." and "when I was your age I wouldn't have dreamed of doing such a thing..." etc etc.

Thankfully things are being accepted far more, but there will always be some who frown upon whatever it is you choose to do, not much can be done about that. Just do whatever you want to do, do it wholeheartedly and don't look back. You're living your life, no-one else :)

Gotta agree with this, my parents bought me the first 4 bikes i owned and there both old. I think some girls have a bit of a chip on there shoulder about being a girl instead of just getting on with life and doing what they want to do.

I think you need to be able to distinguish between your parents/mother caring for you/your safety and thinking what you do is tom-boy!! ;) What you said there slaps me in the face they are thinking about the danger elements of what you do - the way she worded it wasn't perhaps the best way to get results, but caring about her daughters welfare is simply being a (good) mum!!!!!!! 8)

I am sure if you played football or playing darts or something there would be much less of a fuss made - not the sort of things your mother would have done either, but I am sure she cares very little from the feminism point of view, just your chosen interests have a big danger element! - why don't you ask her about it!! ;)
