I think in the interests of consistency they should at least make the car test the same - swerve test?!

Yeah, but they are not trying to discourage people from learning to drive a car, or am I just being cynical?

As I understood it, the new rules are to comply with European legislation.
So I'm not sure the government has any room to manoeuvre.
Though it is possible of course that they have chosen to implement a unnecessarily harsh interpretation of the driving licence directive .

Did my DA last summer specifically as I had heard the new test was going to be a lot harder. Didn't really think it was going to be that difficult though.

Got a friend at work who is interested in doing the DA later this year. Will pass on the comments here and make sure he gets it done.

Not sure why the DSA are making it so hard. I wonder if any of them have actually tried the new test yet. I'd be interested to hear how they got on.

Im assuming that theyve only just started trialling it using experienced instructors?, only to find out its not do-able - obviously the people who designed the test dont ride motorcyles!!

Although I'm sure the greenies would like to stop people learning to drive as well!

The new centres for the test are not all in place either. For example those wishin to take their test in the Penzance Area have to travel over 100 miles to their nearest centre. + 1 on the possible litigatation when someone injures themselves.

If the test is trying to find out the capabilities of a new rider where accidents and mistakes happen in a controlled environment, then its not a real test because our public roads and other road users are real world scenarios. I guess only time will tell!

I think the new test is clearly just that hard to reduce the number of bikers on the road. There was talk at the last DSA conference in November that this test is the first phase as a trial and then they will be implementing a harder test over the next 5 years. All in the name of safety. Because if no one rides a bike then no accidents can occur!

Bottom one answers top one... I agree Dan.

Could we do them for persecution/bikeism? :p

All part of new labours grand master plan to ensure a population that don't smoke or do anything else dangerous and work till aged 80 at least while paying 99% taxes. Basically ensuring a nation of battery hens to support a massive civil service a la communist russia.
