You only notice the middle aged ones because they can afford the posh bikes. You don't notice the yoofs with supersports because they can't afford to buy or insure them. Economics has largely turned biking into a leisure activity rather than a basic need for transport issue. And an expensive leisure activity at that. And the folks with the largest disposable income coupled with a vague recollection/yearning for youthful persuits are the middle age folks.

**** - just thought, is it still "three score years and ten?". In that case I've only got two years to go before I'm officially "middle aged" :( Ouch.

Besides, as has been pointed out, many of the middle aged bikers around have earnt their biking stripes on decades of two wheeled ****e, now they can afford something decent can't we at least let them be and forgive their terrible fashion sense?

Where's the 'youf' ?!

Yikes! If Middle Age did not start at 50 you could be talking about me, except.........

Grey Hair? - a little bit, but it don't matter wot colour as long as it stays in. Trust me on this. :smt038

Big Guts? - Just dug me old bike jacket out the loft - still fits after 16/17 years (and no gut then either!)

Race Replica Leathers? - Whoaaa dude!! In my part of the world and in the 80's that was just Gay Gay Gay. With a capital "G". (hey, the "Caring sharing new age nineties" hadn't yet happened!)......and to get on a track yer needed to go racing - not have a day out.
Knee Sliders? - For stopping Carpet Burns. See above :rendeer:

Youf today on Motorbikes? ASBO's permitting I suppose :takeabow:

Seems the money spent on bike and gear is proportional to the width of the chicken strips :-P

That's not the right way to do it. Here's what you should do:

Have a succession of birds and bikes, but don't settle down. Then once you reach your mid-30's, find a Pretty Young Thing who's just finishing university. As more mature(!) bloke with bike and money, you stand more chance with them than you did when you were a spotty 21 year old oik.

Then pay off mortgage and have family once you hit 40. Keep your bike and disposable income.

kids are not something you choose to have, its a common misconception. one minute you couldn't give a toss for anything and the next morning you wake up with 2 kids wife and a hefty mortgage plus long hours at work. trust me on this. you don't choose kids the beggers choose YOU.
