Shouldn't that be "Samson" ? Bit of Biblical correctness there #adjusts the imaginary dog collar# :-D

Nope; Sampson :D

Stephen; I'm just using the lense that came with the camera (18-55 mm VR lense). I'm quite happy with it, and the VR dooda is more than a gimmick, it does work.

Mine arrived today! Mmmmmmmmm gold boxes! Gotta love Nikon boxes.

I'm out for a 300 odd mile ride tomorow so will test ride the D60 and post up later.

Very nice!

I bought an Canon 400d at the start of the year and have read quite a few bits since then. The D60 has yet to have a bad review as far as I can tell and seems to have been well thought out! Good luck with it :)

Whatever tips you got, do pass them on to me :D

I should be able to work out a few things about how to get good pics once exams are over

And yes, gold boxes are great!!!!

Have you received your cash back yet?

My cheque for sixty quid arrived yesterday, making the cost of the camera and lens £362 including delivery!

If you set your apeture to say f.stop/1.3 (or the lowest number possible) it reduces your depth of field (meaning there is a shorter area in focus with more of a blurred background) - wicked for macro photos and portraits where you want more emphasis on the person with the background less focused.

example (not taken by me but was a zoom lens with lowest aperture possible)

Erm, faster shutter speed means sports pictures will be perfectly still - get a friend to ride past you at 30mph, put your shutter speed at about 125fps and pan the camera as they ride past - release the shutter = background should be blurred but bike should be in focus & sharp... may take a little bit of practice.

night exposures, use a tripod (or stable flat surface) and stick your camera on an 8 second exposure. You'll get some good effects where there's both moving & still lights in the frame (like vehicles and lamp posts respectively).

examples (taken by me :)):
