SV650, engine braking??? Huh... wait til you tune it!!!

Best thing to do is ride it, take it steady and gentle like it was your first (sensible) time on a bike. Learn how the bike feels and you will learn how to ride the bike!

Wrong dude. Curvy has a TPS it varies the ignition advance at different throttle positions, doesn't do much and can be left in the "wide open" position if you wish. it's also a total f###er to adjust.

It's not bad to adjust, and it actually does something useful. :D

My tips on riding an SV (given it's friday, and I'm just about to leave work...) ride it like you stole it. ;)

Yes but it being out of synch on the pointy actually hurts performance and rideability... on the curvy it makes little difference! :-P

As far as upchanges go , I keep my SV (pointy K3) upchanges below 7000 rpm when the bike isnt warmed right up , makes for nice smooth changes and done in one fluid action and quickly . Hit 5000 revs , Throttle closed to just off the stop , clutch dipped , gear snicked , clutch out , throttle rolled on nicely . All in around half a second , nice and smooth with no drama . As far as downchanges go I just let the engine brake and when the revs drop to around 4000 I do a downchange , locked it once at higher revs for a fraction of a second and never got used to blipping or suchlike so in same boat as you mate :D

For upshift just need to be firm and positive with the shift like any bike, suzukis have decent gearboxes that are nice and slick. Downshifting just give it a bit of a blip and a little downward pressure, when the revs are right it'll slip in. (fnarr)
