Big thanks to everyone that's joined! I think the point I'm trying to make is a good one. The police come roaring along in their big Volvo with seat belts, airbags, crumple zones and side impact protection systems, their blaring siren warning everyone they are there!
Then ticket a vulnerable road user like a motorcyclist for having a noisy pipe?
I'm not in anyway blaming the police, I'm fully aware of the fact they don't make the law, and are just doing a job, but it all seems a bit wrong to me.
When I fitted a can to my bike the difference it made is amazing! so many less pedestrians stepping out in front of you, car drivers actually know you are there! when I sit in traffic you see people looking around "whats that noise? oh it's that bike" BINGO they've seen you.
Anyway I'm ranting, sorry;)

Not in the slightest. I think off the record most cops would agree! as I said I'm fully aware that the police don't make the law.

I know I've used the police as an example but the same applies to all emergency services, they all have sirens because noise attracts attention! and on a bike attracting peoples attention can save your life.
This was never intended as a snipe at the police.

Seems the coppers I've chatted to would be more likely to give you a ticket riding like a knobber on a quiet bike than for riding sensibly on a loud one.

i've spoken and been stopped by a few and loud pipes have never been a problem, small plate's more so.

Men with small things need a telling off, now if ya got a large tool then we just stop to inspect it and let you be on ya way

Oh we talking policing now .... OK I follow the letter of the law using discretion ;-) and sense and depends on how fit the guy is !!

Joking folks btw - small plates are challenged for a valid reason Kwak, sure you all know what it is and I need not spell it out. Loud cans make sense to me and without VOSA man I wouldnt ticket for one anyway.
