Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
it was me!!!!!
no it wasnt Err....more power from your SV....hmm, you might get another 10 bhp if you do things like full exhaust system, cam mods and stuff. Welcome! Matt |
Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
Sorry, a bit idiotish with all this tuning talk. what is the best system to have (power to value wise) and what are cams, do you mean engine cams on top of the piston? what is the benefit over a system when compared to a slip-on exhaust? i've also read an ECU rejet is a good idea.
sorry for all the q's. |
Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
Hello and welcome!
To be honest tuning an SV engine for power is best left to those who fiddle with spanners as a hobby and spend too much time on ebay, or the wealthy and bored. You can throw a lot of money at it for some average returns on power. That said, any slip on exhaust will make it sound great, and a bit of cash thrown at the suspension can make a big difference to how it feels to ride, swings and roundabouts I guess :) Jambo |
Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
A slip on can won't add power, if you're looking at full-systems there's a good few on the market which will give a couple of ponies.
Tuning the SV for power is fairly pointless, the money is far better spent on suspension. A bit of messing around with the gearing can make it more rideable round twisties at the expense of on the motorway or vice versa. That's cheap enough to do. Look at dangerous daves bike, to build one of those you could probably buy another SV for the same money. muchos £££, and that's still not up to the same power as a supersport bike. |

You won't find a cheap performance exhaust. I got a micron system for my curvy SV for 40 quid, but they don't flow nearly as well as M4 or similar, sound very nice though. |
Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
Thankyou Yorkie. i think i will stick to just a slip-on exhaust and a gearing change. is this just a matter of using different sized cogs?

Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
Welcome Geoffrey to the site.
Some friendly peeps on here, and me.:smt077 Best advice is to get a loud exhaust and sort the front suspension out IMO, although a regear might give you the best instant result. Better to put a larger rear sprocket on as a 14 tooth front one can wear the chain quicker. I've got a 46 one on my curvy. Definately peppier. |
Re: Hi, another newbie looking for my saviour.
i bought a beowulf slip on can (click to have a look at the cans for sv) for 140 quid, sounds immense and fitting was the easiest job in the world :)
I've been considering a k&n panel filter for the sake of having one (if they do one)... apart from that I'm going to get some new pads (which yorkie chris has offered to fit for me :)) and then maybe look at the suspension. welcome to the site! |
