Try phoning around, my friend bought a VFR400 about the same time I got my SV, we were 17 and he paid about ?400 TPFT (less than for my SV). I've been with Carole Nash the last couple of years, they seem usually the cheapest for me, give them a try.

ello larry, was it you who came up to me and maria nd had a chat in little chef :D

to give you a quick idea on insurance - I was paying £1000/year fully comp on the brand new SV. They now want £1800 after my accident for fully comp
so I'm thinking older bike and just take TPFT. which means...

Something like an IL4 (one of the older ones) could be a good bet as I've been quoted £1600 fully comp on a gsxr600 (99 model) so TPFT should be closer to £1k what I was paying before.

There's something wrong with your figures there. An Sv is group 10 and a GSXR6 is 14. No way should the 600 be cheaper unless it's the age of the bike.

It certainly was, what are the chances! Saw/heard you guys coming in on the SV and got all nostalgic. How was the rest of your journey home? Hope you ran into better weather than we had down here!

What you get depends on the depth of your pocket.

If I were you I'd be more than happy with a CB500/ER5/GS500 for a year or two, they move, and on a 33bhp license there's really no point in insuring anything more potent is there?

I'd happily pay more for some handling capability!

dont bother using bennets untill you are 21/22. they were allways really expencive for me untill i turned 22 then they were one of the cheapist!!!! carol nash i found to be the best then i was 18. i knew someone who had a vfr, with yoshi pipes i think, sounds really nice. and it didnt cost him too much on insurance either.

People upgrade/race CB500s don't they? New springs/shock, some decent rubber, braided lines and decent pads and I'd bet it's more than capable of handling its limited output with ease. Unless you buy a mint/expensive 400 it will need that stuff doing anyway.

What Hovis said.Get an old curvy cheap and insure it TPFT.Keep it for two or three years to build up NCD and riding history then buy a sportier bike when you can insure it for sensible money.

The gsxr was 10 years old the sv was brand new. Go figure.
The curvys are actually growing on me. The dark blue ones are pretty nice. Just need to magic some money now, shouldn't take long after being back from holidaiy.
