Seriously, I hear where you're coming from (my bike previously having fairing fitted, which had probably equally as poor light spread). Spots seem a far more appropriate option, given the series of complaints about being blinded.

I had uprated Osram bulbs and two high intensity spots (wired to high beam) on my GPZ. It was far better than any other bike I've had since IN TERMS OF NIGHT RIDING that is ;-) i have crap eyesight anyway so I find riding at night very dificult if I'm being honest, I have real troube seeing stuff when its raining and dark. I'm definatly looking at getting a HID conversion kit when I finally decide which bike I'm keeping long term.

I just bought some 55w bulbs to replace my stock originals... I looked around until I found some that claimed to increase the light output, but not increase glare for oncoming drivers... We'll see though.

Left the lights on on my bike for a while and the wiring didn't feel hot, and the light housing didn't feel excessively hot, so I'm hoping there aren't any issues long-term. 2001 SV650S, not currently running due to some other issues...
