Saying that, the Scott oiler does work just seems to be throwing the lube out. Did notice over the last few months that I have a LOT of splater on the rear wheel from chain fling. That's it been set at 2-3.

Seems to always leave a little spot on pavement when I park up.
It never used to! maybe need to check that out. Thing is I always make sure it's topped up. So not sure, it may have some trapped air or slight pressure in it after switching off pushing the lube out?

So the winter list is now, new fork springs, brake seal overhaul, chain and sprockets. might get a tail tidy and eventually maybe a hugger.

Check the chain hasn't cut the pipe.

I've come across some kits on E-bay, JT sprockets and a Tsubaki chain but when I've enquired further they have advised me they are the "soft rivet link" type...., I know this is superior to the "bicycle chain split link & spring-clip" type, but I wondered which type you guy's recommend, is the endless type chain a new bike factory fit item only, as I would have thought that would be preferable......

Soft rivet link is fine and no difference in practice to the endless type. However the endless type does force you to remove the swingarm, which is not a bad thing as them bearings rarely get any grease.

Thanks for that Chris, I intend to pull the swing-arm off anyway and de-kak it all and do a lube on the shocker bottom rocker & swing arm needle rollers as you mention, I'll get the chain & sprocket kit now as I know it'll be fine.........

hi guys back again a careful word of warning if you do rivet yer chain back together make sure its good and if you use a spring link make sure its the right way round as i found out a long time ago replacing broken gearboxes are time consuming as is rewiring it was a long push home old gs1000s are very heavy....hehehehe

oh and buy the way if you buy an o'ring chain using scot oiler dont do anything ecept dirty yer bike aerosol lubes are a no no as well

Erm... Are you actually advising to fit an O ring chain and completely forgo lubing it?

Have seen a neglected O ring chain dead in under 5k miles, and have seen a scottoilered one last 70k miles. That tells me a scotoiler is doing far more than dirtying the bike fella!
