interesting idea... yorkie chris: "...Now, take some copper slip (cue massive advert: HALFORDS COPPER SLIP NOW ONLY £4.99 PER CAN) and apply it to the..."

"...You need to get the torque setting (TORQUE WRENCHES NOW REDUCED AT HALFORDS) to 65nm..."

I don't like halfords at all. I'd rather direct everybody to the engineering supply place down the road where you can get decent, guaranteed kit for reasonable rates, and even talk to some folk with an Iq above room temperature!

Lol.

On a serious note, if anyone wants to learn then I'd say get yourself a haynes manual and a knackered SV engine. I got one with blown big-end bearings for the grand total of £40. Lots to be learnt, and that one's paid for itself 3 times over.

hmmm... fair point. Sounds tempting. York college haven't got back to me yet. Sod 'em.

e.g this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-SV650-E...d=p3286.c0.m14

F### all chance of it running again really, but a good learning curve and box of spares!

i was just looking at that before coming back here lol..

sounds like a big job but what would it take to get it running again? I'm guessing new pistons and tidying up the cylinder walls (rebore?) - like the rough surfaces you showed me the other day? Sounds like a proper industrial style machine job? Getting rid of metal bits left in there, crank/big end bearings need sorting? anything I've missed? I'm not planning on doing it but just wondered lol

No it's f###ed. Not repairable if the crank is scored, you can get them reground but can't get the matching bearing shells AFAIK
