Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Start at beginning. What bike, what is problem?

Re: Garage mucked up my bike
It's GSXR400. Since I got it back from garage, theres a bad noise coming from engine (knocky sound that I'm hoping is just misfiring cylinder). When engine is warm there is grey smoke from exhaust. In five minutes of running the bike a 5cmX10cm puddle of oil/petrol mixture collected under bike. Power is really really slow to come on. It struggles to build up revs.. although I didn't want to push it harder than 5-6k as it sounded very sick.
These symptoms are all a result of the garages work as I had none before the bike went in. No leaking oil, no smoke, smooth sounding engine and responsive throttle. At least they fixed the cutting out at idle problem haha:) |
Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Very odd. I'd check first that a carb isn't dumping neat petrol into the oil. The messing around with vacuum system could have filled engine with fuel if a carb is faulty.
First get plastic off and see where oil/petrol is coming from. |
Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Ok thanks yorkie... If I can't get them to fix this problem for me I might ask you for help and do it myself.
However, it really wasn't my intention to turn this post into a "help me fix my bike" thread so I apologise. I will take with me all your advise when I speak to the garage on Monday. I'll post my results incase someone else searches "my garage has screwed me". Cheers Lads |
Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Was it in that state when you collected it from the garage?Did you raise the issue with them then and there? If not I doubt you will get anywhere blaming them as they will say it was ok when you took it away, and invite you to prove otherwise.
Best bet is to try and fix it yourself. |
Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Talk to them on the phone, as has been said already, firm but polite. Be clear about the problem and what you would like them to do about it. Don't lose your cool, stay focused on what you want them to do for you, and make it clear you don't want to spend any more money at this point. Pehaps they will agree to look at it again for free, but they may not be willing to cover costs of any parts. If so, use this as a starting point, you can argue about who pays for what once the problem is diagnosed.
In short, ask yourself how you would like to be approached if you made a mistake at work. Good luck! |
Re: Garage mucked up my bike
Well when i collected it, visually it seemed ok so i drove away. It wasnt until i got to the first junction that i realized something was wrong. The poor lollipop man was choking on the smoke and trying to waft it away with his hands. I put the poor sound of the engine down to it being cold.. It was outside the garage overnight i suspect and i collected it at 8am. Was a bit chilly. I was already late for work so didnt have time to turn back and have an arguement.
Ive just been out to have a look at the bike again. Upon closer inspection, I've noticed that the tank was only bolted down halfway... not even hand tight. I thought I'd have a closer look. Tank off and realized the air box wasn't fastened properly and was jiggling. Upon even closer inspection, one of the breathers was not connected at all!!! Anyway, I've connected everything up properly and its made no difference. However, I can see that the oil/petrol mix is coming from the exhaust. I'm chomping at the bit to have a word with this guy. |
