Hmm, you've never struck me as a woman with low self esteem...

Anyway, if you get an old, dirty CG125 now, give it a right good clean and sell it in the spring you should make a nice little profit.

Hi Jayne

Nice plan!! Fingers crossed that you find a bike you can afford and that all goes well with the training. I'm sure you can do it. After all if I can (even 4th time:D - foot down in yewwie:rolleyes:) anyone can:D

As with the rest, get a Honda CG125. I have one and I won't be selling it ever, even after I just bought an SV650s.

Costs **** all to run, I forget when I fill it with petrol because it uses so little. Can hold a good load and handles really well. It handles well with a passenger too.

It hasn't got much power, but it has enough to get around on. It's not built for speed at all. I've done a few journeys over 50miles on it and it's not bad.

If you fancy a CG125, have a look at the YBR125.
Just a bit more modern and seemed better built (Bought new)
Mine took a fair bit of abuse and two decent binnings and came out fine with little spent. Foot pegs seem to just act like crash bungs, hah.

Really easy to take to bits aswell, I picked up a fair bit from it I'd like to think.
Px'ed it for 500 less than I paid new, which the free insurance made up for. :p

New Leaf,

I am thinking of doing this on my SV650s, to get an unrestricted license. What happens regarding the U-turn, as the SV has a much smaller turning circle compared to say, my CG125?

Did you mention it to the test examiner beforehand?

Surely you mean much larger, no?

I did the restricted test, but you had to push it round first. I guess this serves two purposes... shows you can safely push your bike and also shows the examiner if the bike can physically get round

Not sure if it's the same for DAS though...

If only it were that simple...

Firstly the Instructor has to be affiliated with a school and Carol gave it up because the hours are awful, the pay is low and it started to eat away at her love of bikes. She earns twice the pay now working half the hours. Sad but true. :(

Secondly, Carol's bike is a bit worn out and does not move at the moment. Big expense coming if/when we decide to repair the old monstrous (GTR 1000) thing.

insurance is a problem for me, they pretty much laughed us out of the office and said no way when we asked about having it registered as a learner bike and then they referred us to point one above. :smt019

The 125 route will suit me though, a low powered SV is still an SV, I just have to get to test standard first, hence the 125. It will all work out ok, we just have to be patient and not expect me to be all butch and tough, especially when really I am a delicate little flower! :smt104

One final thing, I found DAS to be really hard and to be honest I know it will take me some time to get my road confidence up. I am worse with cars, my last driving lesson ended with me sat on the pavement nearly in tears after driving through Bristol. :smt022
