Re: Oily right foot
The clutch covers warp, i put my money on it being from there.....
|
Re: Oily right foot
Yup, sounds like clutch cover.
That drain hose is either excess fuel or coolant. |
Re: Oily right foot
yeah, after a clean boot yesterday... 1 trip home and 1 trip back to work and there is fresh residue on the boot. (thats 16 miles in all, not really getting the engine warm)
To be honest, i am not THAT worried about it... it is more residue than fluid. Unless i have a major reason to be worried? My clutch is causing me unrelated worries... so if i require a new clutch or something, it can be sorted then. Speaking of clutches, what is the average clutch life?? I have people telling me that a motorcycle clutch never packs in, but i hear peopl on here having to replacing plates etc. I have done 25k. Cheers |
Re: Oily right foot
Depends on use, some last ages, some people can destroy a clutch pack in a sunday afternoon.

Re: Oily right foot
My clutch symptoms-
- first bites from cold start are very loud, kinda squeals. - not the cleanest of gear changes... made bearable by a bite point at close to full lever extension. I will see how it bears out into the summer. What is the most common failure case of a clutch? I don't see it being too high up the 'danger' list. |
Re: Oily right foot
most common failure... bad adjustment!
Then worn lifter. Notched baskets. The plates seem to last a fair while. |
Re: Oily right foot
sorry... i meant, how does it fail when it goes? Just loss of gear changes?
I did the sid squid adjustment and i ended up with a bite point very far out from the bar, i think i will have another tinker and try to bring that in... but then gear changes seem a little more rough. |
Re: Oily right foot
Other stuff ok? Oil level? chain tension?
|
Re: Oily right foot
yeah, Oil is just changed and between the limits.
Chain on the other hand is at a tension making the best of the tight spot, it is probably too slack at its weakest. Also, when wheeling the bike, you do get a feint chain 'whirr'. Not sure how normal that is, but the chain has done about 8k, with scottoiler. |
