comes with practise and experience mate. I've done next to no miles on my bike but it's slowly coming together.

its about going at your own pace and enjoying yourself, go too fast just to keep up and you'll crash, your bike is adequate tho the sv is made for corners, just chill and enjoy :)

Re: Feeling a little inept!

How many miles have you done since you passed your test, and for how long have you been riding? I've had my licence 2 and a half years, and covered 17,000 miles...yet riding with other people, I'm often left behind. Some of this is the fact my sv is less capable than a ZX6 or GSXR. But most of it is my lack of ability...

My dad does half the milage I do. But with 35+ years riding experiance, he is quick.

In time, you'll learn more about how to get the best from yourself and your bike, and you'll become faster because you become smoother, and because your smoother, you'll be safe.

Give yourself time, little improvments and refinments are the way to go, rather than pushing yourself beyond your limits - I'm sure your mates would rather you arrived at a destination 5 minutes behind them (like i do) and you incur stick for being slow (like i get) instead of not arriving and them riding back out to find you dragging yourself and your bike from a hedge.

[edit]just read more postings...so, you havn't been riding long then! Well, ride at your own pace, no matter how slow you feel your going. You'll learn, and in a few thousand miles you'll feel better...and in a few 10,000 miles you'll be a bit faster on some parts (like me...my dad is reluctant to filter, i can leave him behind easily in traffic if im not carefull!)

Yep - as they all say, ride at your own pace.

The only time I've come close to binning my bike was trying to keep up with Fizz and Beenz when trying to catch up with the main group on a rideout. They were on GSX-Rs....... I wasn't

Do some rides on your own too, you'll be surprised how much you learn

Re: Feeling a little inept!

I'm aware that I'm getting corners wrong. Not all the time, and not always the same mistake. I think one of my most consistant faulty is turning in/apexing too early. Sometimes I misjudge which gear I am/should be in and end up 'chugging' out of the corner. Then there's times when I enter a corner too fast and have to lose speed in the corner. And then there's my lack of confidence in the tyre grip.
I know I'm improving as I do the miles and get more experience, but I seem to have a hell of a way to go!

You've done what 700 miles since you passed, so its not surprising that you feel like that. DAS doesnt teach you ride, it teaches you to pass your test. What your finding out now is how to ride. It takes time, dont rush it and dont beat yourself up about it.

The important thing is that you have realised you have a way to go yet, as Han Solo says to Luke..

revs are your friend, too many rather than too little will help.
