I should imagine riding with your son or daughter is challenging. But then that completely depends on the parent, some are nicely laid back and happy to do that, others no doubt find it diffcult. Some may even find it the only way of "keeping an eye on you" :)

Just do it and don't tell them. What they don't know wont hurt.
You're old enough to just do what you want anyway, and my parents realised that when i leave home i would just get a bike, so they let me (after a lot of persuasion) and i know they arn't happy about it but i live with that because it's something i want to do.

I don't want to offend my mother but equally what I do and how I do it is my business. She lives a long way away and I don't see her that often, which is a shame because she's 85 and she won't live for ever. My dad died 22 years ago. Frankly he's better off dead because he didn't enjoy life. The only thoughts I have of him now are of all the wasted opportunities, all the hurt and the bitterness. I know I posted on this just recently but when I stop to think about it it all comes back again and no matter how much I try to kick him out of my life once and for all, I can't.

Maybe thats not an option in this case

I think part of being an adult is the gradual acceptance that you won't always see eye to eye, but can still love and respect them, and they you too.

agreed

Kate you have to do what makes happy

I hate having that heir of doubt from them looming over me!

Does anyone else still worry about what their parents think?

Kate I wouldn't worry too much, I'm a bit older than you. I don't tell my folks everything.

I have been going for a s*** of late of late however I didn't tell them to this year about it, casue I needed to sort a few things out myself and didn't want to spoil xmas.

I did eventually they have been quite suppourtive, however last time I had dinner with them they decided I needed a good talking too:rolleyes: But they mean well.

One of friends is quite a bit older than me, his dad still has no clue about half things of who he is.

My folks are proud of me for sure, but worry more than they let on about work and my bike, espically as a guy on my team died on duty but you can do nothing about that.

They paid for the depsoit for my SV, but everytime I see them I'm told be to be careful. My mum told me that she wants me to happy and lead my own life, which what I suspect your folks want of you.

You will never please them with every choice you make, but you have to lead your own life. They couldn't understand why I was so bad @ a-levels, when it eventually found out that i'm really dyslixic they were like oh that makes a bit more sense, I mean how could any get F @ maths twice:rolleyes: It took about 8 years for them to say that.

End of the day we all have to lead our own lives, were not here for long. I would suggest long as your happy your folks will be okay.

I think family is important, they are the only people how have and will always be there for you, no matter what. But then again I'm lucky.

Just sit and have a talk with them, things are never as bad as we imagine.

Take it easy.

I'm afraid it never goes away - I still like to have my parent's approval and I'm Fif..........*cough* well lets say double your age ;) My sister is 52 and hides from our parents the fact that she smokes!

I should add that they never really comment on the things I do - I just like to know that they don't dissaprove strongly! :-)
