I've not had any experience with the CRB, but I'd imagine if you're being sensible about what job you're after and not applying for boy scout leader or something with previous for kiddy fiddling then you should be OK

I mean, so what if 10 years ago you had a scuffle with a bouncer or whatever, if you present yourself well and are honest about mistakes you've made then I'd give you more credit than someone who tried to hide their past

Just my 2p...

Most employers understand that most of us had "issues" during teen years.
If your qualified for the job, honest with them and are the best candidate I cant see too much of a problem.

The States won't allow you in with ANY criminal conviction.

actually you can, it's just a little harder

having a conviction means you're inelligable for the visa waiver program, and you'll have to apply to get a visa to travel to or through the US

however, if you have a conviction for a drug related offence i wouldn't hold out much hope of obtaining a visa of any kind:(

edit: DappaD - my advice would be to contact the British embassy or the American embassy and ask them, as as far as i can see there's not much solid evidence on the net

Dappa-go into your local copshop and explain the situation to them and see if they will do a check for you-that way you'll see what comes up if anything
