If it is the reg rec to blame would it kill my new battery too? I think it is the battery as the bike was left to stand by the previous owner from September till last month so I reckon the total discharge finsished it off.

Yeah, mine will last its had a good run but stupid me parked the bike up with the fuel light on so didn't have time to get some charge in it before I ran dry.

Wait till you get the multimeter and do the test properly. Its the only way your going to be sure.

+1.

You've already spent the money on the meter - may as well use it to be certain of the fault before going further. Although I think we know what you're going to find.

That its the battery? Or am I completely wrong? If it is the reg rec to blame will I still need to change my battery? Electronics are a dark art to me and with the bank holiday I'm thinking I should just buy a battery asap anyway.

Re: Hard starting/flat battery.

As alluded to in my other thread (sorry mods for two threads, thought it was a different question but looks like it should have been in here), the battery in my curvy is, according to my haynes, the wrong one and is for a pointy. Does this matter and is it likely to have caused any problems in the charging system? I'm going to buy a one of the correct spec but was wondering if the pointy spec works better etc.

Can anyone shed some light?

I doubt it will make a difference. MDS batteries have some heavy duty ones that might be worth looking into.

So what did your multimeter say when you checked the charging system? If your reg is fubared it will destroy your battery(and it seems your battery is destroyed)but it will destroy a new battery as well,so best check it out first.

Still waiting on the multimeter in the post (damned bank holiday). I was going to get a new battery over the next couple of days and when the multimeter arrives confirm if it is the reg, as I'm presuming it wont kill it in a couple of days, or will it?

Re: Hard starting/flat battery.

If the reg is fubared and causing the battery to be overcharged it will boil it up and ruin it quickly.I wouldnt want to spend £50 on a battery only for that to happen.
