No its definately melted. When I bought it the black plastic was marked and I didn't really think much of it. It wasn't until the spindle started to melt I started to worry. The picture isn't great but I'm sure it hasn't been hit, anyway there's no damage to the outer screen and I haven't taken anything apart i'm too much of a mechanical numpty to start doing too much!

Better reply :smt046

Serious note though, has the bulb been replaced at any stage?

It might be worth taking it out and checking the condition and type to make sure its ok.

On the plus side, you must be riding hard to melt the clocks ;)

Do you know I didn't even think of checking the bulb, thought it would be a sealed unit . I'll have a look and find out what it looks like, anyone on here know what it should be like? I've never changed the bulb but the previous owner could have.

Thanks Bunks

A similar thing has happened to my rev counter this weekend. I noticed the plastic has peeled back leaving a hole.

I know it definately wasn't like that on Friday, but I noticed it on saturday. The bike was parked with it's back to the sun for a few hours on saturday, so I concluded it was probably the sun. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

You shouldn't get that with the sun. It may have been warm this weekend, but it's UK-warm! You checked to see if it gets hot whilst riding?

the edge (transition) of screen where double bubble starts will melt gauge due to sun hitting it at right angle. it is common :)
