Removed and fitted mine with hand. Though I was lucky it wasn't stuck.

No need for torque wrench, just 2 full turns after filter touches the engine case while screwing it on. 2 turns was as much as I could tighten with my hand.

use a leather blet and some cloth,
Wipe the old filter so its clean and dry,
wrap the cloth around the old filter,
pull the belt tight around the cloth and twist.

*mine did need a screw driver rammed through and tapped with a hammer to just work it loose* if you've got the grip yourself you wont even need the belt!

Will try by hand to start with, then a strap wrench I think. Won't be overtightening the replacement, that's for sure!

That's good news, long may it stay that way! :)

Glad your ass has been saved. Might get one of those filter pliers instead of the strap wrench.

Think I might stick to a general tool rather than a specific one for Suzuki oil filters, though it seemed a good idea at the time.

Any more opinions on the Hein Gericke 10W40 semi synth, £13.99 for 4L? Seems very good value to me.

The wemoto type you posted are fair but, but if they are not on square, they can slip and round the edges. The the best ones are lined with silicone rubber to give them more grip especially around the top of the filter.

I HATE strap wrenchs. If you get oil on the strap or a dirty filter they just slip. On the SV it is not too bad as the filter is out in the open, but under a car it can be a pain

For me you can't beat the pliers type. you might get a few scratches on the installation, but any filter is coming off.

Yep use the Hein Gericke 10W40 semi oil, it's fine.

Cheers Mark.

Thanks for all the advice, I found a chain wrench at the bottom of my toolbox, forgot I had it - idiot! Will grab some HG oil from Southampton store later this week. Anyone local to Southampton know the best place for oil filters if I don't go down the Wemoto route? :)
